Looking back, I don’t see shortages & failures, just opportunities to grow stronger. From economic hardship to an opportunity for education. From a nearly failed AI class to a career in AI. From living under a travel ban to visiting ~50 countries. Failure is a recipe for success.

My general critique of AI language models is the same critique one should have of models in general, which is that giving an approximately correct solution in 98% of cases isn't particularly valuable if the 98% are trivial and the 2% are what you really care about.

Can brain function be simulated using just the connectome? We show in a new study led by Philip Shiu that a leaky integrate-and-fire model based on the FlyWire connectome and neurotransmitter identity accurately predicts complete sensorimotor transformations.
