Public programs should be judged by one metric: do they deliver the service at an acceptable cost? Not "good jobs". Not decommodification. Not dismantling oppressive structures. You run transit to move people. Public housing to house people. Say no to distributional coalitions

I've said it once, I'll say it again and keep repeating myself: No expensive housing market builds lots of housing. That is not a coincidence: build homes and prices are controlled!

The Netherlands banned investor ownership of housing in 2022. It did not reduce home prices. New homeowners had higher incomes, were more often Dutch-born, moved shorter distances, and stayed longer than the renters they replaced. I do not think this was an equitable outcome.

New study: Denmark’s expanded paternity leave program narrowed gender gaps in earnings and made dad more confident about parenting skills … but also made dads (and moms!) less satisfied with leave, bc of a widespread preference that moms should much have more parental leave time

If your child becomes a reader, about 80% of the education job is already done. That's my honest assessment after working in education for over thirty years. Everything else is secondary. Most parents think science education is important. Yes it is. But if you can't read the

Seriously. I can’t tell if we’ve destroyed Iran. Or they’re having a successful counter attack. None of it in chronological order. Half the For You tweets about it from random aggregator accounts trying to make $4. None of it verified. Add in grok + AI slop. Shit show.

CHART OF THE DAY: Without minimizing Qatar's announcement that it's shutting down LNG production (which triggered a 45% price jump), here's a bit of context about international gas prices. Using European benchmark TTF as a proxy, here's the price chart of the last few years.

New reserach shows the CDC guidelines about throwing away breastmilk immediately after your baby drinks from the bottle is way too cautious. Bacterial growth is minimal, even for several hours at room temp. This may seem minor but I promise it's not for parents.

Joshua Gans Daron Acemoglu David Autor It is my biggest gripe with all the industrial policy stuff. It is oh intervention is great. . as long as I am the one dictating it. But that ignores completely the political economy of intervention. I find it stunning that people who are sophisticated about power don't see that
