I get frustrated when I see "rigorous" and "evidence-based" applied exclusively (or even primarily) to quantitative research. Narrative research is also "rigorous." Stories are evidence. Emotions are evidence. Analysis of affective responses is evidence. History is evidence.

Essential, heartbreaking reading by Dr. Rob Davidson MD, MPH, who is an ER doc in my home community. All the support and solidarity to health care workers who keep coming in to work day after grueling day, going above and beyond for their patients. Thank you 😷

LOVE Xmas BMJ. This article was so good. Not bc it called out nonsense. Bc it named the conditions that produce nonsense - with elegant parsimony.

Under pressure to meet QI targets and staring down the clock in never-long-enough consultations, how do clinicians choose which (of many) guidelines to prioritize in which patients? What if we considered the time needed to implement each guideline relative to effectiveness?

30 infants die and we recall 4.7 mil Rock ‘n Play Sleepers. 2 toddlers die and we recall 3.2 mil Calico Critters toys. 2 infants die and we recall so much formula that the US goes into shortage. Last year, over 6,000 children were injured by gun violence. Nothing. Nada.
