How complex a fracture zone is? Recent seafloor mapping in the Pacific shows a high diversity of seascapes along a fracture zone. This unique structural complexity helps a variety of biological community to flourish in the deep sea Deep Sea Research Centre School of Biological Sciences, UWA UWA Oceans Institute UWA

Back on land and serving you some Friday viewing - a ctenophore getting booped by a deep-sea grenadier in the northeast Pacific a few weeks ago. BIG-EYE JELLYHEAD On a recent expedition exploring the Pacific Abyssal Plains, our #deepsea research team captured footage of a 𝘊𝘪𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘶𝘮𝘢 𝘤𝘧. 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘯𝘢 from the deep-sea lander camera at 4800m. This is a rare sighting of a deep-sea cirrrate octopod at this depth.

Had an awesome day today learning how to maintain and service a salinometer from Nicole (with assistance from Pavie) at CSIRO in Hobart! Fingers crossed it’ll be smooth sailing while at sea! #observationaloceanography #salty

I was lucky enough to be a science co-pilot on submersible Bakuwana at the start of the year! We went to 4950m, north of Tahiti 🌀 Just a few of the 9999 photos I took 🌀 Deep Sea Research Centre Inkfish School of Biological Sciences, UWA (I’ve been quiet on X due to lack of science content on here!)
