Timothy Imholt As a lifelong library user and lover, I'm tempted to ask "what can they do to libraries that libraries aren't already doing to themselves?" 98% of my used books are now library discards, and libraries are mostly empty spaces that used to have books.

Under what conceivable theory is a tax on "unrealized gains" constitutional? It's not apportioned by population. It isn't a tax on income (16th Am). It's a taking of a share of private property (forbidden by 5th Am). But I suppose no one cares about such things anymore.

You know, if we are gonna rant 24/7 about a show being cancelled, I'd like to see the last two seasons of Star Trek TOS, the second season of Firefly, Forever, and Swamp Thing, and the third season of the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Stuff happens.

Just saw #ReaganMovie . A shockingly good portrayal of a president I remember well. Tickled me to see Dana Rohrabacher as one of the characters. If you know someone too young to remember those years, I recommend the movie. Compressed, obviously, but it got the flavor right.

If you remember the 1980s, you should go see “Reagan.” If you don’t remember the 1980s, you should go see “Reagan.” If you weren’t alive in the 1980s, you particularly should go see “Reagan.” Go before it disappears from the theaters. I’m astonished Hollywood allowed it to be

With the caveat that the main thing we need from a frontier is the return of the *belief* in a positive, limitless future. And we can get that very early, long before the physical resources are seriously tapped, just by starting.

I hope the strange but really enjoyable Amazon series "MY UNDEAD YOKAI GIRLFRIEND" gets a second season. Kind of "what would 1980's 'Weird Science' have been like if the being summoned were a revenge-obsessed version of 'GoGo' from 'Kill Bill"? Not my usual fare but I liked it.

Just watched the Netflix Apollo13 documentary. It's excellent, well done and very much in the flavor of the recent Apollo11 and Apollo8 documentaries. I highly recommend it #Netflix #Apollo13

I'm a believer in the power of free trade & markets. But it's obvious that you don't supply your adversary in time of war, and it seems to me that when states are clearly adversaries, that's a good reason not to keep them in your supply chain. Is there a good book on this?

Elon Musk One of the weaknesses of post WW1 Western culture is that we have discarded the value of subjective experiences. Love, joy, despair, and the search for meaning happen *in your head*. And they are 'real things', that are affected but not *determined* by 'objective' reality.

Sometimes, being sacked is the best thing ever! My stint on the National Space Council was one of those times. homerhickamlifetimes.blogspot.com/2024/09/how-i-…

Clifton Duncan No one except a critic watches a movie or show because they're told "if you don't, you should feel guilty", or "this isn't for you". But most of us can tell that if that's the marketing message, the product likely isn't very good.

Brad R. Torgersen Yes, absolutely. We had to pay attention to our own freedoms because they defined us against the other. We had to stay serious about our defenses for the same reason. The 1991-2015 "holiday from history" was a profoundly unserious time in U.S. policy foreign and domestic.
