While Tyler Shough had some "wow" throws today, Spencer Rattler also was impressive, especially with his command of the offense. Both young QBs are slinging it right now. Life will get exponentially more difficult when training camp starts. But the competition is going to be fun.

Among the things I learned from my 1-on-1 chat with new Saints defensive coordinator Brandon Staley is that OLBs Chase Young & Carl Granderson have dropped to about 265 pounds this off-season to enhance their speed and mobility. They’re closer to their natural playing weight now.

Brandon Staley is still in the embryonic stages of implementing his new 3-4 defense, but the two Saints players who stand to benefit the most from it are Chase Young and Alontae Taylor. Both will be playing featured positions in the new scheme.

This is a major story with no promising resolution in sight. Both sides are dug in.

I asked Saints president Dennis Lauscha earlier this year about the possibility of the club buying the Fair Grounds. He said team officials might consider it as part of a consortium. Current NFL rules would allow for the purchase of a track, where they wouldn't years ago.

Good news, indeed. Logic and reason finally prevail.
