A local rarity for me this morning. Female ring- necked duck on Lee Green Reservoir near Burnley. Found yesterday by Nigel Leeming. The bird was witnessed mating with a nearby tufted duck on numerous occassions this morning 👀. #eastlancsbirds #Aythyacollaris

Its been a few weeks since i saw the Red necked Grebe at Clowbridge Reservoir, Lancs. So i decided to make my way there this morning, and wow! the change in plumage! An absolutely stunning bird and a privilege that it gave such close views 😃👍 #eastlancsbirds #Podicepsgrisegena

Great closeup views of eight crossbills this morning at my local patch Upper Coldwell in East Lancs. Also a group of lesser redpolls feeding with them 😀👍☀️ #eastlancsbirds #Loxiacurvirostra

Great day yesterday in North Wales. Started off with seven black grouse + 2 ring ouzels but the stars of the show were undoubtedly the pair of hen harriers. HH has been top of my 'pending lifer list' for years! We ended the day with distant views of the Bonaparte's Gull at Conwy.

A return visit to Clowbridge Reservoir today for the Red-necked Grebe was well worth the visit, it is an absolutely stunning bird now in fantastic plumage, incredible how it has changed in the 3 weeks since I saw it last #lancsbirding #birding RareBirdAlertUK BirdGuides

Lovely walk around Trawden this Easter Sunday morning in the ☀️. Female mandarin back on it's nest within a tree cavity for (at least) the sixth consecutive year. Five wheatear together and 23 willow warblers heard or seen on the walk. #eastlancsbirds

Cape Gull, Redcar Tarn, 27/4/25. Lucky to be looking in the right place today, as none of the few observers present saw it drop in. Only there for under a minute & it flew off north after a quick circuit of the lake. Struggled to get camera ready, hence some out of focus shots!

I've had no luck with the Cape Gull at Redcar tarn despite spending three hours there yesterday and two hours today ☹️. However, 2cy Caspian Gull seen yesterday (a second bird turned up later in the day) and apparently the YLG made an appearance in the evening.

Lots of waders feeding at the high tide mark. Turnstone, Sanderling and Purple Sandpiper. Birds moulting into smart, summer plumage

Whitethroats have got to be one of my favourite birds. Difficult but fun to watch and photograph. This bird seen near the Old Stone Trough, Kelbrook. #eastlancsbirds #Sylviacommunis

Two lifers ✅ today featuring the long staying Ortolan Bunting at Wykeham (incl Honey Buzzard flyover but i didn't see it!), and a Wood Sandpiper (finally, my bogey bird) at Farnley Reservoir, Leeds (found by Jonathan Scragg yesterday) on the way home.

Cracking record of 2x Wood Sandpipers at Lower Foulridge Reservoir found yesterday morning by Glenn Higgins. Still there midday today, spending much of the time feeding in the dense vegetation on the edge of the reservoir, and sometimes feeding at the shoreline. #Tringaglareola
