Every year for Christmas, our Traffic Division plays Santa to a family who lost a loved one in a traffic fatality. This morning, they gifted presents to the family of Charlie Criniere who was struck and killed while riding his bicycle. He left behind a wife and 10 children.

KCPD is wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

We have been working to enhance safety for the LGBTQ+ community, and today several agencies joined us in trainings at Hamburger Mary's. Our new LGBTQ+ Liaison Officer was one of our many representatives on site, along with the FBI and Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD). 1/2

In honor of Kansas City Police Officer James Muhlbauer and his partner, K9 Officer Champ.

Thank you, Kansas City.

Officer James Muhlbauer’s name is now on the Police Memorial located in front of headquarters. The memorial is a tribute to our officers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. We are saddened that Muhlbauer is on the monument, but we’ll always remember & honor him.

K-9 Champ is now on the memorial at South Patrol honoring our dogs who died in the line of duty. Champ was the definition of man’s best friend.

It’s been an incredible week, I’m so proud to be part of all that went into this great event, but mostly proud of my department. kcpolice came together to ensure a safe and successful event for all who attended… thanks for coming NFL it was truly an honor!

On Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the name of the U.S.A. We remember them. We acknowledge them. We are grateful for their selflessness and service to our country.

Incredibly, the City of Bellevue, Neb., renamed one of its streets today in honor of Officer Jim Muhlbauer. Muhlbauer grew up in Bellevue, south of Omaha, & his parents still live in the same house, 30+ years. A portion of Lillian Street now honors Muhlbauer & K-9 Champ. 1/2

This is a terrible tragedy for this department and this community, we hurt for our neighbors in Fairway! 💙🖤
