From 1700s, British FCO believed dark skin people would happily work forever picking fruit, cotton, etc at low pay & appalling conditions. In 2022, DFAT & some academics at ANU believe the same. National Farmers' Federation never stopped believing. independentaustralia.net/politics/polit…
Today marks 20 years since #auspol introduced Alternative Places of Detention (APODs), including hotels. Daniel Ghezelbash & @AndrewB_GeogMQ created a coast-to-coast map to visualise what's known about this practice that's operated largely in the shadows. kaldorcentre.unsw.edu.au/mapping-use-ho…

Kos Samaras Instead of always focusing on what 'yes' did wrong, why don't we talk about how 'no' used misinformation and fear to contradictorily convince people Voice had too much power, but would also do nothing, while at same time, would divide. An advisory body! accent-research.com/voice
@MolanJill Kos Samaras Victoria Fielding Can’t agree more. Virtually every news program gave coverage to Dutton or Price , who would do a press conference in which they lied, exaggerated, or misled and only took a few Q’s - usually from “friendly” media. Most journos never fact checked statements, just repeated them.
