Great thread discovered way too late in the year. Well worth some time to see what academics are currently thinking about emergency management and incident response. Thanks Dr. Samantha Montano!

Good read on the stresses associated with major wildfires and by extrapolation, how our institutions are not set up to adequately support extreme incidents. #IMT #PIO #IMT #crisiscomms #wildfires womensagenda.com.au/uncategorised/… via Women's Agenda

Good article in this pub by Robert A. Jensen on how insurance companies need to improve their practices after an aviation disaster. Many of the points he makes seem familiar to those of us who work with communities after a wildfire disaster. kenyoninternational.com/pdf/InsuranceD…

It's Earth Day, so here's a blog post that explains why wildland fire PIOs should take every opportunity to discuss climate change, even if internal politics are antagonistic. #PIO #climatechange #crisiscomms incident-services.com/anchorpointblo…

As of 4/29, we haven’t had anyone out for a mission yet. The only other time in the last 21 years that's happened was in 2015 (1st mission on 5/5). Despite the late start, we wound up with 153 missions that year (9th busiest season on record). Late Starts do not = Slow Seasons

Every incident means interacting with a bunch of humans under stress. That complexity make it impossible to develop objective criteria for what makes a good PIO. This is reflected in the many ways we approach task books & trainees. #PIO #Training #IMT incident-services.com/anchorpointblo…

On incidents, we spend so much time in the now that we tend to forget every place has a history. Knowledge of history & a sense of place can lend credibility & confidence to crisis communicators. #PIO #CrisisComms #PRadvice #CrisisPR incident-services.com/anchorpointblo…

PIOs & crisis communicators need to regularly look up at the national & world news. If the public perceives disparities in disaster media coverage, it may affect your approach. #crisiscomms #crisispr #IMT #PRadvice #PIO incident-services.com/anchorpointblo…

With the increasing complexity of incidents, how do PIOs and crisis communicators think strategically? Here's an attempt at answering that question. #PIO #crisiscommunications #crisiscomms #IMT #AHIMT incident-services.com/anchorpointblo…

Homeowners who lost their mobile home & family cabin in the Wickiup Road Fire allowed us to take this picture. Although grateful no one was hurt, (& these were not primary residences) they’re sad at the loss of the cabin that was built by their grandpa. Our thoughts are w/ them.
