Mike Brown was murdered 9 years ago today. His killing started an uprising that was repeated again in 2020. Today the police continue to murder, brutalize, harass, and imprison Black people. It will take more than an uprising to stop this. We need a revolution.

6 years ago today, during a #PeoplesMonday protest for #JeromeMurdough, I was arrested for "disorderly conduct" by NYPD while literally walking on the sidewalk. IIRC, cops claimed it was b/c I walked in the street earlier that night. I was 1 of 2 journalists arrested that night.

Our historic settlement means the NYPD can no longer arbitrarily flood protests with cops—new protocols keep cops out of most protest, and require a proportional response. The NYPD also won't easily involve its notoriously brutal Strategic Response Group (SRG).

The Cop City RICO indictments allege the date when George Floyd was murdered by the police as the start of the "racketeering enterprise." Let that sink in. The day a movement to abolish the police took on new life is the day for them a criminal enterprise was born.

Around 20 counter-demonstrators are about to walk past where anti-migrant ralliers, and lots of NYPD, are near a migrant refuge center on Staten Island. Chanting, "Refugees are here to stay, welcome them in every way!" and "No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here!"

The polling is clear. By sizable margins. 🧑‍🏭New Yorkers want work permits for our newest neighbors. 👨‍⚖️They believe we need comprehensive immigration reform in DC! 🏘️New Yorkers know that immigrants make our communities stronger, not more dangerous. scri.siena.edu/2023/09/12/maj…
