In my experience: MacIntyre's polemical anti-liberalism, open conversion to Roman Catholicism, continual favorable (if critical) appraisal of aspects of Marxism, made him difficult for elite American liberals to charitably encounter, or even read without dismissing beforehand...

I was sorry to hear of Alasdair MacIntyre's passing. But what an intellectual journey and achievement! His writing, especially on "tradition", has played a significant role in shaping my own philosophical understanding of that category, whether applied to Islam or not.
