Some early highlights from today: Summer Creek’s Brianna Rivers repeated as 6A state champion in the high jump. Bridgeland’s Rowan Saacke won the girls 3,200. And the Iowa Colony boys set a new 5A state meet record in the 4x100 relay with a time of 39.74. #UILState

Through 16/17 events, the Fort Bend Marshall girls are third in the team standings with 40 points. Red Oak (54) and McKinney North (45) are leading. Marshall is the only one of those 3 schools with a team in the 4x400 relay, so the Buffs have a chance to make something happen.

Iowa Colony boys (54 points) are in first place heading to the 4x400 relay. Frisco Heritage (34) and Fort Bend Marshall (30) trailing the Pioneers. Iowa Colony is the only one with a team in the final race, and they have all but officially wrapped up the Class 5A championship.

STATE CHAMPS: Fort Bend Marshall girls win the 4x400 relay at 3:43.73 and overtake Red Oak to claim the Class 5A team state championship.

Class 6A boys standings entering the 4x400: Dekaney (26), DeSoto (24), Southlake Carroll (24), Mayde Creek (22), Atascocita (22), Dickinson (22), Northside Harlan (22), Cy Springs (22). But … only Mayde Creek has a team competing in the final relay.

Class 6A girls standings entering the 4x400: Shadow Creek (57), Atascocita (56), Duncanville (32), Summer Creek (29). Duncanville and Summer Creek both teams in the final relay, but even 20 pts with a win won’t be enough for either to catch Shadow Creek.

STATE CHAMPS: Shadow Creek girls win the first state championship in program history, claiming the 6A title with 69 points.

⚾️ Beautiful day for a Game 3! I’ll be out covering the series finale between ConroeTiger Baseball and KleinCollinsBaseball at noon today. Klein Collins hasn’t reached the third round of the playoffs since 2018. Conroe, meanwhile, hasn’t reached the third round since 1989. Plenty at stake!
