Yesterday Year 3 loved being in our Forest School 🌳 making natural hotels for mini beasts! Everyone worked really well together and it was great to see teamwork, enthusiasm and a love of the outdoors. 🐜🐛🐞🪵🌳🍁🍂🍃

Remembrance Day we paused, reflected and honoured all those who are serving and who have served their country. Their sacrifices and courage will never be forgotten. Lest we forget. ❤️🩵🤍🖤 At Holme Slack our school values remember those impacted on past and present wars.

Year 5 have been busy bees 🐝 in outdoor learning they made journey sticks, in maths they made giant number lines to help them understand negative numbers and in science they’ve investigated what a conductor was! They tried to melt an ice block to retrieve a trapped toy 🧸

This afternoon Y1 celebrated the start of the Hindu festival of Diwali 🪔 the festival of light, where good overcomes evil. They started by watching a clip about Diwali 🪔 finding out some background information as to what and why Hindus celebrate this festival. #HappyDiwali2023

Year 1 are amazing readers! 📚 They were using the whisper phones and reading eyes today to focus their reading.

Our art work in Y1 today was amazing, we have been building up skills over the past few weeks. Firstly, foot and handprints, the week after we embellished our work with nature in black marker pens, finally today oil pastels on the white surfaces. I’m blown away by the creativity

National Science Week was fun across the school 🥰

As always, fun in the sun with this lot. 🏏. Our first competitive cricket match this term and a fantastic win. Well done team Holme Slack 🥇

Our Netballers had a successful night in the local league. They started with a warm up in our first game which led to a draw but they soon found their flow. This then led to 2 strong wins. What a team! Well done team Holme Slack. You're always giving your all.

In science Y1 went outside to record some real life plants. They focused on the window technique. It focused the children to a smaller window for recording - it was lovely to see the children observationally drawing, then once inside they could label their own work ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s been a great start to the new academic year, the children across the school have transition brilliantly into their new classes. Here are a few photos of some of the exciting activities that’s been going on👍🏽

Today Year 1 are making bread, measuring, kneading and shaping small rolls into the same of a hedgehog. This links brilliantly to our maths, science and creativity - baking is also good for self belief and mental health.

Today we said a fond farewell to our lovely school cook, Mrs Malcolm. Mrs Malcolm has been a much loved member of our Holme Slack family for over 20years. We gave her a good send off in our celebration assembly followed by all the school adorning chefs hats🥰
