The First Aid Nursing Yeomanry was founded in 1907 to ride on horseback to the aid of the wounded. In August 1914, the War Office rejected them so Grace Ashley-Smith acquired an ambulance and took 6 FANYs to Calais on 27th October to serve the Belgian and French Armies. 10/
