Cranial bony projections in pecorans serve various roles from defense to mate selection. A new analysis of pronghorn cores sheds light on their microanatomy, aiding in comprehending behavior & phylogenetic history. Research by Slenker et al.: doi.org/10.1002/ar.253…

New paper in The Anatomical Record ! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/share/author/Y… We used the relationship between alligator femur volume and body mass to predict body masses of some extinct croc relatives. Result: taxa were less chonky using femur volume as the mass predictor compared with using femur length.

250 mya, Pseudosuchia emerged. Understanding croc biology not only unveils their past but also aids in deciphering traits of ancient pseudosuchians. New study suggests femur volume is reliable predictor of body mass for these creatures Holly Woodward et al: doi.org/10.1002/ar.254…

Determining sex in extinct archosaurs is tough due to small samples & preservation issues. New study examines Alligator mississippiensis cortical bone for egg-shelling signals. Results: no signif. difference b/w male & female alligators Heck & Holly Woodward doi.org/10.1002/ar.255…

Finally, after five decades of collection and research, we have calibrated stratigraphic resolution of the confirmed dinosaur occurrences from the Two Medicine Formation of Montana! Thanks to former students Ray and Dave, and colleagues Jahandar and Eric! researchgate.net/publication/38…

Did crocs lose their warm-blooded edge? 🐊 A 2004 hypothesis suggests ancient pseudosuchians (croc relatives) were endothermic but modern crocs lost it. Review of 20 yrs of evidence suggests End-Triassic extinction favored cold-blooded survival @MathieuGFB buff.ly/3ZWiFlo

Great description of the work by Danison et al. 2024, the status of #Saurophaganax, and the scientific method at work: testing hypotheses, retesting later with more data, and knowing a hypothesis could be tested again in the future. svpow.com/2024/12/22/abo…
