A blog with some thoughts on sustainability in the context of biodata resources. Sustainability goes beyond funding and has many aspects - along with different perspectives on these.

Delighted we have launched the new Pathogens Portal #pathogensportal, extending beyond COVID-19 to broader disease and pathogens - bringing together data of relevance to infection biology for research and preparedness.

Major milestone for GlobalBiodata - consultations now open on the topics of open data and sustainability with respect to biodata resources. Rich and deep food for thought from the two GBC Board Working Groups on these important topics.

Biological data cross borders as part of their sharing and usage cycles. In a blog I look at the mix of data import, export and self-use for one biodata type.

Without biodata resources, there is no advance in the life and biomedical sciences. In its 2033 selection, GlobalBiodata has announced a further 15 Global Core Biodata Resources, bringing the set up to 52, collectively serving a breadth of domains, data types & user communities.

The GCBRs provide an essential data foundation for the life sciences, both directly to users and as data providers to more specialised topic-focused resources. GCBR leaders work with GlobalBiodata to explore, and drive towards, greater sustainability for biodata resources.

It’s important that biodata resources provide data openly, but raises challenges when assessing impact. In a blog, I suggest opportunities: providers into the data value chain (e.g. of data resources, tools , standards, etc.) will benefit from sharing impact stories.

V pleased to reach this point. Recognising the need to engage with scientists/infrastructure providers from all corners of the world, doors now open for broader membership. This will improve coverage/services, help sustain activities and build greater equity in sci data sharing.
