Propagating basil offcuts today. Cut the basil three inches from the top underneath a leaf node. Strip the bottom leaves away and place in water, then hey presto in two weeks some roots should appear and then we will pot the plants and grow a swathe of basil.

We were honoured to have olive oil direct from Vid’s grandmother in Croatia made from homegrown olives, in the pizza practical with 8CXW last week. Well done Vid. We love that. Food & Nutrition | The Grange School The Grange School

Today’s the day we ate our first batch of lettuce and enjoyed a tasty ham and lettuce sandwich! Mrs Leonard joined us for the picking of the first lettuce 🥬

Look at our peas! We are going to have a tasting session at our next club meeting, I’ve had a sneaky taste already and they are delicious 🌱

Looking forward to welcoming the new year 7s into the Grange Growers club in a few weeks. For now, have a look at these amazing chillis from the chilli plant I’ve been babysitting during the summer holidays donated by Deborah Leonard

The Growers club is taking a break until after the February half term - we will be back after then with more seeds and saplings 🌱

We will be starting to grow again in the next few weeks - focussing on early lettuce 🥬, pea shoots and spinach from seeds in the greenhouse followed by carrots 🥕 and courgettes in the spring. Our experiment this year will be trying to grow the notoriously tricky cauliflower!

Our year 7s have been busy gardeners recently. We have a tray of lettuce on the go, some cauliflower seedlings and some sweet peas. We are going to transplant them into grow bags next week as the weather is perking up and getting some proper sun onto them.

The year 7 growers have been doing an amazing job in the greenhouse recently. They’ve grown their own lettuce from seed and on Tuesday they sampled their efforts in a sandwich at lunchtime after harvesting a batch of lettuce.

One of the courgettes that the year 7s started off and I took home to grow over the holidays. I can confirm it tasted very nice in a veggie lasagne!
