The irony: faculty can't stop students from using AI (for various good and bad reasons), and we (educational developers) can't stop faculty from using AI detectors (though we know they're bad)

This just caught my attention, from a UVa Darden School conference on AI: "(Lou Pugliese) expects tech giants will try to acquire lifelong learning providers and adapt them to their own needs, putting them in direct competition with traditional education providers".

"AI’s ability to evaluate a draft response & provide cues and prompts that help foster responses that further a discussion - as well as leading learners to reflect, revise and strengthen responses..stands some chance of elevating many online discussions." buff.ly/45N1JhY

Opened a filebox from a move two years ago, thinking I'd chuck outdated articles. Turned to be a trove of Jonassen's positions on constructivism, plus Walt Dick's counter-argument. I remember quizzing this mind of systems design on the implications of constructivism at AECT.

So, my alma mater let this dissertation out into the wild: "Comparing equivalent face-to-face [F2F] and online [OL] delivery formats: Observations of learner interactions to determine instructional quality". I guess I time traveled back a few decades? #OnlineLearning

Maybe it's just my Western bias, but as I look at an international "examination certification", I can't help but wonder how a 72/100 score is an "A" grade (per the transcript). A very generous grading scale, I guess?

I love working with our School of Ed faculty and leadership, in part because my own advanced degrees are in education, so I always feel we speak the same language.

Panel insight: there's a lack of vision in higher ed leadership, in recognizing that online learning can help meet institutional goals. Preach! #DTLSOLAR24

Paul LeBlanc notes that schools who don't recognize the needs of non-traditional learners are in fact creating structural inequity (in terms of access) #DTLSOLAR24

"Managing up" means you know someone higher in the chain of command has your back. The best days are when you know this to be true.

"Dean of Marketable Skills and Badging". I'm not sure how I feel about that? Does that mean other academic programs don't lead to marketable skills?

22 years ago today, the entire episode of The Late Show with David Letterman is dedicated to Warren Zevon, who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. He plays three songs and offers this sage advice: "enjoy every sandwich."

I'm probably going to spend more time over on SkyLab or whatever it's called, since the Overlord here is now directly consorting with TFG. #ijustcant
