China controls 98% of active anode material production. That’s graphite - processed into battery-ready form. The dominance is real. The risk is growing. This graphic shows why supply chain diversification must accelerate.

Perspectives No.11 from NORTHERN GRAPHITE is worth a read. In May, the U.S. DoD issued an RFI for 48,000t of flake graphite by 2032. While battery-grade dominates headlines, industrial graphite is also critical. Northern Graphite is North America’s only producer. northerngraphite.com/perspectives-n…

Each Tesla Semi truck, with its 900 kWh battery, requires 1.0-1.1 tonnes of synthetic graphite anode material. Producing that much takes 2.5-3.3 tonnes of needle or petroleum coke. Natural or synthetic - scale it up, and the feedstock requirements are staggering.
