This Labor Day, I’m proud to celebrate the hardworking men and women that built the middle class, put the world on wheels, and are helping us create a brighter future. Here in Michigan, we’re fighting to protect workers’ rights as we make this the best state for working families.

Congrats to Jaydin Blackwell who won gold in the 100m race and Jayci Simon who won silver in mixed doubles badminton at the #ParisParalympics! It’s wonderful to have incredible Michigan athletes like Jaydin and Jayci representing our state and Team USA on the world stage 🥇🥈

I hope you enjoyed your Labor Day weekend. It was great to relax and soak in the last days of summer, but now, it’s time to get back to business. Our construction crews are already hard at work, rolling up their sleeves and fixing the damn roads.

Here in Michigan, we value freedom and autonomy – last year, I signed the Reproductive Health Act to protect abortion access, lower barriers to access care, and reduce costs. Let’s keep working together to defend reproductive freedom for all Michiganders.

We know women of color face greater barriers to access care. When we talk about women’s health, we must acknowledge these gaps as we work to close them for everyone. Our investments in maternal and infant healthcare will help every Michigander get the support they need.

My heart goes out to the students, staff, and community of Apalachee High School today. Michigan stands with Georgia in the wake of this horrific tragedy. Our young people deserve to go to school and spend time with their friends without fear.

Powerful advocates like Stephanie are stepping up – she saw an opportunity to fight for positive change and she led the effort to pass the Michigan Family Protection Act. Today, more Michiganders can access the resources they need if and when they want to grow their families.

Every family should be able to make it in Michigan. Every family deserves access to the resources needed to thrive. The Michigan Family Protection Act does just that, supporting families formed with fertility treatments like IVF and making surrogacy a more accessible option.
