The 100 life-size traveling elephants, "The Great Migration" were unveiled in New York yesterday. Shermin de Silva, an assistant professor of ecology at the University of California, San Diego, hopes the installation will help people understand how much space they need.

It's pretty rare to see Maia this clean. Lately, the girls have had a very thick, dry layer of dirt on them from their frequent mud bathes during the dry season. But, Maia must have just gotten back from a swim in the pond when we found her here.

For this week’s Sunday Smile, we caught Rana and Mara on their morning walk down Creeky Alley Road in Yard 4, headed toward Yard 2. The girls are really taking their time, but Rana is swinging her tail enthusiastically. Both elephants seem content moving at their chosen speed.
