.Geir O. Pedersen Grateful to meet with Syria’s Central Bank Governor Abdelkader Husrieh reviewed positive steps on sanctions relief initiatives. While structural challenges remain, easing restrictions offers a historic chance to rebuild.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, met with the #UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to #Syria, Mr. Geir O. Pedersen , to discuss prospects for cooperation in advancing higher education and scientific research in #Syria.

.Geir O. Pedersen At the Oslo Forum -with among others- FMs from Syria & the region. While in Norway, I emphasized the importance of Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity &  territorial integrity, & the need for an inclusive transitional political process.

Syria must be supported — led by Syrians & for all Syrians. A just & sustainable future can only be secured through united, sustained, & coordinated collective action.

.Geir O. Pedersen welcomes the presidential decree issued by the Syrian Interim Authorities announcing the establishment of the Supreme Committee for Elections to the People’s Assembly.

This could be an important step in line with the Constitutional Declaration that commits to establishing a new People’s Assembly as the transitional legislative authority, and where two-thirds of its members are to be indirectly elected.
