Finance professional. Long on GAW (until I am not!). Not very diversified - in GAW so deep that I follow the news religiously. So I may as well tweet about it.

100%. Like a dieter weighing themselves 50 times a day - not merely irrelevant but counter productive. I always appreciate updates from people on which shares they own. But I cant believe 1 month performance correlates meaningfully with longer term results. I just ignore that.

Nothing makes me less likely to follow someone/more likely to unfollow than a Twitter feed full of retweets. At least add a little commentary or analysis.

I *do*, however, think McKinsey should be the 5th or 10th book on the topic someone reads. The risk otherwise is just reading loads of books aimed at the novice.

Yes. I don't think one needs to be an accountant/ex-accountant to be a good investor. But one does need to understand accountancy. The alternative - buying shares of businesses without understanding the language of business - is just speculation.

The more I invest, the less I find I even look at the P&L statement. The balance sheet and cash flow statements tell me so much more. What do others think?

Rather than look at accounting profits for ROCE and then look at cash conversion I just use: free cash flow / (LT liabilities + equity) x 100 to calculate ROCE in the first place, so even for that I don't look at the P&L. When I do use the P&L it's for DuPont analysis.

Games Workshop Investor we can say with a high degree of certainty that an article like that is written by a robot that looks at some data points and creates the same article for each stock.... I rather not even read them and have blocked dozens of accounts that just spam internet with them.
