Quite a challenge ! A footbridge leading out to the gardens at Wentworth Woodhouse required restoration to bring the historic bridge back into use. Metal & stone components have been skilfully restored and put back together using the traditional technique of run lead.

Interesting historic graffiti revealed during restoration works at Darley Cliffe Hall The markings scribed into lead roofs by long gone people are being carefully removed & conserved they are to be reattached to the new roof. Interesting record of the changing shape of footwear

The Adze, once a favoured tool of joiners & carpenters but seems to be little used today. The timbers seen in the photographs formed part of a roof constructed c.1680, the cutting blade on the adze seen fits almost identically the marks cut into the boards around 340 years ago...

Maintaining The Pillared Hall Wentworth Woodhouse After almost 300 hundred of years of continuous use the stone floor is in very good condition, needing only minor repairs. Testament indeed to the immense skill & virtuosity of the Masons responsible for creating it.....

Traditional lead rainwater goods. Sand cast lead downpipes & shoe just manufactured in our workshop & good to go, will be fixing to a Grade I Medieval Church tomorrow.

About to start restoration work to The North Bastion Wentworth Woodhouse There is some debate about its age. Have uncovered a date of 1743 carved into a batter stone. The matching South Bastion which is much higher & has a built in sundial is thought to date to the mid 1730's

"Banker Mason" Simon skilfully undertaking various stone masonry & stone tooling works as part of a conservation project commissioned by The Fitzwilliam Wentworth Estate. The completed pieces which are cut from quarried stone will be later assembled on site by our Fixer Masons.

Stone replacement works undertaken Here a badly decayed chimney stack adorning one of the Gate Houses to Wentworth Park has been faithfully recreated using newly quarried stone. The tooling has been masoned to match other examples found on the very charming and picturesque Lodge

Church Central Heating Works Undertaken Here a new underfloor heating system has been installed within a breathable limecrete floor slab, this has then been finished with stone paving. Traditional cast iron radiators have also been installed within the Grade II* Historic Church

Stone Replacement. Here damage has been caused to window tracery by cramp jack. This happens when iron cramps which are commonly used to stitch stone structures together rust and expand resulting in stone being blown apart. Maintaining pointing will prevent this type of damage

Queen Ann Monument, Wentworth Castle. The Grade II* Obelisk designed by James Gibb for the 1st Earl of Strafford was built in 1734 by Joseph Bower of Stainborough. Works were needed to stabilse the monument, this included excavating and adding a new foundation below the Obelisk

Pleased to be carrying out stone replacement to The Queen Ann Monument The obelisk, which stands about 25 mtr. in height carries a fascinating inscription, it was completed in 1734 for Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, his house, Wentworth Castle can be seen in the distance.

Found these artefacts inside the wall of an old cottage today, the comb looks to be cut from bone, anyone date them ?

Replacement boot scraper, a device for scraping mud from the soles of your boots or pulling boots off before entering the door, common in 18th & 19th c cottages. This charming example along with tooled ashlars are being replaced at a village pub at Fitzwilliam Wentworth Estate
