First day of field work in the Archipelago Sea on the island of Orhisaari with Dr. Veijo Jormalainen & his students Turun yliopisto - University of Turku. We are exploring the ecosystem impacts of invasive mud crabs. It is intense field work, but the scenery and company are amazing! @FulbrightFIN College of Science

Very proud of our 3 College of Science ASSIP high school students and 2 Mason OSCAR undergrads for completing summer research projects under the direction of Sarah Goodnight and two grad students, Daya and Jose! ESP Dept GMU Mason Research

I loved my stay Turun yliopisto - University of Turku's Archipelago Research Institue on Seili island. Permanently inhabited since the 1300s, Seili was a leper colony, hospital, mental asylum, field station, & now tourist destination. It's beautiful location means easy access to the 🦀! @FulbrightFIN

Excited to be selected as a Fulbright Scholar with this impressive group ESP Dept GMU College of Science Potomac Environmental Research & Education Center

Yesterday we celebrated City of Turku Turku Day, which has been celebrated since 1961. Among other things, we walked through the Turun yliopisto - University of Turku's Botanical Gardens and their beautiful greenhouse. Afterward, we saw fire jugglers followed by fireworks downtown! @FulbrightFIN

Shared our research on the impacts of the mud crab invasion in the Baltic Sea with local Turku high school students today. The students enjoyed seeing live crabs and preserved invertebrates ESP Dept GMU @FulbrightFIN Potomac Environmental Research & Education Center Turun yliopisto - University of Turku

A huge thank you to Ella Ahti from Luonnonvarakeskus for giving a guest lecture in our Invasive Species in Scandinavia course Turun yliopisto - University of Turku. Ella discussed the value and utility of Vieraslajit, a one-of-a-kind online platform to identify, report, and control invasive species in Finland.

Proud of Kiersten Jewell for presenting her Spring 2025 undergrad research Mason OSCAR today. She examined if parasite infections affect crab host behavior in the presence of predators. She will continue her research this fall ESP Dept GMU Potomac Environmental Research & Education Center College of Science

Excited for Kiersten Jewell and Dylan Raney to present their research College of Science Undergrad Research Symposium today. Dylan examined long term trends in Potomac River invertebrate communities.
