BREAKING: Former Capital Police officer Jeffery Walker leaving the federal courthouse Tuesday night after pleading guilty to repeatedly slamming a man’s head on the hood of his car and kicking the man in the head and face. Walker will be sentenced in April 2026.

JPD death investigation: 200 Rebelwood Dr. 17 year old male deceased from a gunshot wound. The manner of death is under investigation pending further information. Robbery/Homicide is investigating and the coroner had arrived on scene. No further information at this time.

Update—Eddy St. Fire/Death investigation is being investigated as a homicide. The victim, an unidentified black male, was shot at least once in the head. The fire is believed to be set after the shooting. This is the 60th homicide for 2025. Contact JPD with any information.

HCSO is investigating suspicious activity at both, the Hinds County Circuit and Chancery Courthouses in downtown Jackson. Both locations have been secured and there will be alternate entrances for both buildings until this matter has been resolved. Further information to come.

Update: The Hinds County Circuit and Chancery Courthouses are both open for full operations. The locations are secure and there’s no active threat.

An unknown male suspect left suspicious notes on the doors of both courthouses and vandalized the doors with spray paint, as well as other downtown locations. Our federal partners have been notified and Capitol Police is assisting with the investigation. Anyone with any
