The culture of a school is created by everyone in the school. Walk in a school and see how the front office staff talks and interacts or the staff /teachers in the hallway. Yes the admin influences it but everyone is ultimately responsible for a positive school culture.

Simply put: When I plan to teach, I'm focused on what I will be saying, instructing, assigning, & assessing. But when I design for learning, I'm focused on what learners will be discussing, engaging with, creating evidence for, self-assessing. Learning isn't about me.

"What do I want the kids to learn today?" That's the question to ask & answer. Not, "What do I want them to do?" If I don't know & have a design ready before I walk into the classroom, well, I'm just winging it & crossing my fingers for learning to happen on accident.

Instead of asking, "What am I going to teach today?" & "What work will I have my students do?" TRY "What learning do I want kids to experience today?" & "How will they show themselves and me that they've learned it?" The jobs always been about learning anyway. Not teaching.

The ONLY instructional strategy with a NEGATIVE effect size: Lecturing. -0.26 or 1/2 a year's loss Why? It's passive. There's not a lot of room for the engagement or interaction necessary for deep understanding & skill development. Just a lot of one person talking.
