I don't want to tell billionaires how they should or shouldn't use their money. I want society to be structured in such a way that single individuals never become so wealthy as to have the power to singlehandedly alter the course of society on a whim.

Really glad that Washington still gives out 10 free Covid tests every month and that insurance has to cover 8/person/month. When there's a cold in our household, we blow through tests at an alarming rate between the 5 of us.

My writing process: 1. Figure out topic for doc 2. Do some research 3. Stew over the doc without actually writing anything down for weeks 4. Start doc, add a bunch of content 5. Wait some more time 6. On or day before due date, throw away all content and start over 7. Success?

So I thought when Mastodon first came out that there were concerns about the platform's ties to Russia or some other bad actors, right? Was that a misinformation campaign?

Advice for any tech worker who's been laid off: if your former employer comes running back to you asking for you to save their bacon, you can and should quote your "fuck off" consulting rates. Also, if it won't buy a house those rates are almost certainly not high enough.

Today marks exactly 6 months since I joined Benchling! It was a big transition coming to this company, but my coworkers are awesome and I love knowing that I'm helping scientists be a little bit faster when they do important things like try to cure cancer.

The problem with finally finishing a home improvement project is the frustrating realization that if you'd just dedicated three hours to the problem at any time in the past year and a half you could have already solved it.

I met with a career coach for the first time and generally liked her, but when discussing where I should aim next she suggested I consider a career in HR. Is it just me, or is that some really biased guidance? Would a man in a technical role be told to consider HR?
