The Department of History is so excited to welcome Mr. Ajamu Dillahunt-Holloway as a Interinstitutional Scholar for Diversity and Inclusion (ISDI) Fellow for 2022-2023! Mr. Dillahunt is a PhD candidate in the Department of History at Michigan State University.

The Department of History is thrilled to announce the new Thomas Harriot College of Art and Sciences Whichard Distinguished Professor in the Humanities, Dr. Aleia M. Brown. Dr. Brown will join the Department for three years and we couldn't be more delighted!

One of ECU's most recent grads in the Dept of History-Maritime Studies, Joel Cook, now hosts a PBS documentary, Rogue History, dealing, appropriately enough, with pirates: pbs.org/show/rogue-his… The first episode aired a few weeks ago and the second episode comes out today.

ECU’s Department of History is pleased to announce that Columbia University Press recently published M. Todd Bennett’s book Neither Confirm nor Deny examining the #CIA #Glomar operation to recover a sunken Soviet submarine: cup.columbia.edu/book/neither-c…. National Endowment for the Humanities supported Dr. Bennett’s project.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Jane Landers, Professor of History at Vanderbilt University, to campus to present the 2023 Lawrence F. Brewster History Lecture! The event will take place in Room C207 of the Science & Technology Building at 7PM on February 9, 2023.

The Department of History is excited to welcome Dr. Eric Oakley as Assistant Professor. Dr. Oakley is a scholar of the maritime history of Early America. He holds awards in teaching excellence from UNC-Greensboro (2014) and Kennesaw State University (2022).
