The difficulty of DEI One of three Diversity: A good idea at face value but the way it works in practice is we lump everyone into groups (especially due to superficial factors) and consider that diverse. It should be diversity of thought and experience.

DEI Part 3 Inclusion: This is the least discussed but could be the most insidious in practice. While it is a great goal to include all people, there are certain job duties that should preclude certain people from holding that job.

DEI Part 3.1 Inclusion: Mark Cuban’s Mavericks players are a perfect example. Does Mark hire people with dwarfism for his team? That would be inclusive, but they would struggle in the league and Mark’s team would suffer.

DEI Conclusion: Let’s do better people. Let’s stop assuming everyone in this or that box is identical. Let’s strive for diversity of experience and thought. Let’s push for inclusion based on merit and let’s celebrate that our laws preclude discrimination.
