At first I thought #LFF2024 #SurpriseFilm #SaturdayNight unbearably chaotic, noisy & not very funny. But bit by bit I became part of it; by the end I didn’t want it to stop (tho it had to - it’s 90 mins in real time). Great idea for a film & remarkable technical achievement #LFF

#LFF2024 film no 12 was #WeLiveInTime, a very watchable modern take on a 40s weepie romance. (We stumbled across this being filmed in #HerneHill.) Excellent central performances, & good use of music. High quality food also figures, big time. #LFF #FlorencePugh #AndrewGarfield

#Santosh (in #LFF2024): police procedural (but not as we know it) set in India. Both central female characters superbly portrayed, & negative depiction of most of men very effective too. Cracking film, but not a great advert for Indian police. One of our best at this year’s #LFF.

Our 14th & last #LFF2024 event: Maria Film Official , Maria Callas biopic with #AngelinaJolie set in last week of MC’s life. Beautifully shot: effective use of simulated film flashback sequences. Jolie convincing as Callas; housekeeper & butler brilliantly portrayed. Overlong, tho. #LFF

#LFF is over, so what better than watching another film? #MonCrime #TheCrimeIsMine from #FrancoisOzon is terrific fun, & beautifully carried off. Gorgeous costumes, & a cast enjoying themselves. Adapted from 30s play which Hollywood covered in both 1937 & 1946. A welcome return

Our 1st film (of 14) in #LFF2025 was #WakeUpDeadMan, the third #BenoitBlanc film. #DanielCraig plays the detective again, but #JoshOConnor has the pivotal role, and is excellent. Great fun. More twists than a really twisty thing - no spoilers. The series still has legs.

#LFF2025 film no 2 (gala with director & cast members) was #BalladofaSmallPlayer, with a frighteningly convincing #ColinFarrell as an addicted gambler in #Macao (which looks made to be a movie location). Lovely turn from #TildaSwinton. Lots of strengths, but rather repetitive.

#LFF2025 film #3: #JayKelly, dir #NoahBaumbach with #GeorgeClooney. Film about film star coming to end of career, alternately excellent & mawkish. #AdamSandler a perfect undervalued manager. Often made me uncomfortable, but maybe that was the point. Great music & cinematography

#Bugonia was our 4th #LFF2025 film, and was the most memorable to date. Stunning performances by the central trio, & a very unusual mixture of comedy, tension and terror. Not totally happy with the way the film ended, but still think it quite an achievement. #LFF

Our 5th #LFF2025 film: #TheChoral by #AlanBennett dir #NicholasHytner. Their first collab not adapted from stage. #RalphFiennes conducts WW1 Yorkshire amateur #DreamofGerontius. Beautifully done, inc music. Loved it, bar a couple of plot elements that didn’t feel right. #LFF

Film 6 in #LFF2025: #HIsForHawk, based on true story of relationship between academic grieving after father’s death & a goshawk. Fine acting & falconry from #ClaireFoy . #Cambridge looks beautiful; Mabel the goshawk is the real star, & wrote much of script in her scenes. #LFF

#TheMastermind with #JoshOConnor (our #LFF2025 film no 7) was mixed. Fine depiction of period, excellent performances, humour & sadness, great soundtrack … & yet it often dragged. A film can have many good attributes yet somehow not click. For me that was the case here. #LFF

Our #LFF2025 film no 8: #Frankenstein from #GuillermoDelToro Stellar cast Inc #JacobElordi, #OscarIsaac & #MiaGoth. Excellent & pretty faithful rendering of story, & visually stunning creation of world portrayed. Retains attention despite being 2.5 hrs long. Will do well. #LFF

When I saw the tower in #Frankenstein today, I could only think of en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallace_M…. There is a Scottish connection in the book as well as in the film, so it makes sense. #LFF #WallaceMonument

#NoOtherChoice from #ParkChanWook (who was at the screening) was our 9th #LFF2025 film. Funny, tense, charmingly absurd, well-acted and well-observed. Brilliant dynamic in the central family. Long, but didn’t seem it. Our #LFF highlight so far.
