BillOckham Martin Picard What if inflammation and disease is a repair process? Atherosclerosis shores things up to prevent a more catastrophic event. High fevers burn off pathogenic bacteria. Tumors are excess garbage control. Just asking, are we 100% sure what we're labelling as dysfunction actually is?
Sean Powell Martin Picard Sure,Hoehn, 2009 positioned IR as a protective mechanism & I agree w/ him. HIF-1a is beneficial when (e)HIF-1a but deleterious when (i)HIF-1a. My criteria ab those processes is REVERSIBILITY to homeostasis-the moment Inflammation fails to do that & becomes persistent 1 is toast🤷
Sean Powell BillOckham Martin Picard Inflammation aims to 1) clear the cause of perturbation, 2) adaptation to noxious stimuli and 3) retention of homeostasis (which is accompanied by tissue repair). It's not dysfunctional but coming at the expense of changes in function of organs (HF, IR...).
Thank you Alexandre Dumoulin @axonsalex.bsky.social , this movie is mind blowing! We are immensely proud that, thanks to you, our SPY555-FastAct actin probe is represented at the Nikon Small World in Motion competition! We'll keep our fingers crossed for the competition 🤞
