I keep saying, "Someday I'll write a book" about the struggle to bring an engineering perspective to infection prevention & control in healthcare. For now I'll just write a thread.

COVID-19 is airborne and out in the community. Here's how good ventilation can make public spaces safe Great article ⁦Kate Cole OAM⁩ and Andrew Orfanos! abc.net.au/news/2021-12-2…

Reducing your risk of COVID in January 2022 ✅Safe indoor air - ventilation ✅Masks - esp N95s ✅Vaccinate - and booster/3rd dose ✅Reduce social contact, especially indoors ✅Avoid crowded or indoor venues ✅Shop online ✅Work from home where you can 6/25

RAT = $15-$20+ (single use) N95 = $5-$6 (potential multi-use with care) RAT = tells you if +ve (too late) N95 = helps protect you from getting +ve (preferred) Why are we focussing on RATs and not N95s for taking personal responsibility?

We need to upgrade our masks to N95/P2 respirators given the high amount of community transmission of #COVID19 But how do you wear one so that it best protects you & others? Quick video showing you how here 👇

“It happens to the people who are the sickest and the frailest in the hospital, and it’s so undignified.” Dr Liz O'Riordan on the vast difference between CPR as it’s depicted on TV, and the reality.

Dear #BreastCancer survivors who have had axillary procedures- it is SAFE to have blood taken, and blood pressure measurements done, on that arm. It does not increase lymphoedema and it makes me cranky to see pts scared unnecessarily into painful leg/foot procedures. 1/2

Friendly reminder that if thousands of construction workers can safely wear a P2/N95 respirator while building iconic infrastructure, then popping on a mask for Covid isn’t such a big deal.

One of the little things you can do to protect yourself & others through this next wave is to wear a mask in indoor public places where you can't physically distance. You never know the circumstances of the person next to you & it will help protect you from respiratory illnesses

A breakthrough. Along with prior ventilation initiatives, this to promote, provide for free, & educate about how to use, high quality (N95/KN94) masks blazes a trail in Oz that all jurisdictions should follow & build upon.
