After being caught in the act breaking into several storage containers, males failed to stop in their van and smashed into officers cars. They ran to another car and got away! PD Finni arrived, conducted a search and located a large bag containing at least 30k in cannabis! 🐾

You might have noticed this little chap sneaking into Albert’s photos… Jasper is a Belgian Malinois x Labrador who joined us earlier this year. The pair of them have been inseparable ever since! Jasper smashed it out the park this week & is now officially part of team Albert 🐾

RPD Rudi who I puppy walked and PD Bert who I also puppy walked chilling out together. PD Bert has taken over the reins from RPD Rudi. Big shoes to fill but I’m sure Bert is up to it. Two super dogs.

The Initial course teams have had a great first week on all of the exercises and disciplines. Tracking was on very dry dusty conditions but you wouldn’t have known it the way they tackled it. ( Left) TPD Blue with Steve. (Top right) TPD Bron with Sam, TPD Belle with Dan

It was a pleasure watching the teams this week. The dogs are siblings and are very relaxed in each others company. We couldn’t find a 4th handler for their brother TPD Bolt to join them. The 4 of them have been a pleasure to train on the puppy program.

The dogs havnt done that many bite sessions prior to the course but as you can see here that is not going to be a problem. Left TPD Bron, top right TPD Blue and bottom right TPD Belle who is a really feisty maid

TPD Bolt has the look of a dog who couldn’t go on holiday with his puppy walkers to Florida and also can’t join his siblings on the course because we couldn’t find a handler to fill the vacancy in North Devon. 🤷🏻‍♂️🥺😥 Sorry Bolt.

It’s essential that a Police dog is confident and relaxed around livestock and more importantly is trained to a high level of control. As exceptional as Ella is, the primeval instinct for a dog to hunt & chase is always there. Training always has to be ongoing.

It was between TPD Belle and TPD Bolt because the other two were already allocated. I chose TPD Belle because 80 year old puppy walker Mary was struggling to cope with TPD Belle’s high energy. TPD Bolt’s walkers were coping with no issues about carrying on puppy walking him.

Then he would probably have to go to another force. There are lots of forces looking for a dog. Merseyside have already asked about him for their course starting on the 23rd September.

Handlers have to live within a 30 mile radius of the dog section base but there was no one on the handler waiting list who fitted that criteria
