Fun question... anyone have a dense literary book you read years ago and still swear by, even though you know it was a slog that you'd never get through today? Mine is The Sot-Weed Factor - funniest book I've ever read, I like talking about it, can't recommend it to anyone.

GREAT book! It's of the genre where a young person grows up in a dystopia and makes a subterranean journey to discover the truth about his world, but much stranger and drawing on a mythology that isn't used much in SF/F. The name "Lake Litke" was my first clue about the location.
