#OTD in 1598, King Philip II of Spain receives #Catholic sacraments and dies days later on 13 September. Throughout his life, Philip also held the titles of King of #Portugal, King of #Naples & #Sicily as well as King of #England and #Ireland while married to Mary I.

#OTD 1 Sep 1422, 9-month-old Henry VI became the youngest person to succeed the throne of England. A few months later he succeeded to the French throne on the death of his grandfather, Charles VI. He is the only English monarch to also be crowned King of France. #waroftheroses

#OTD after midnight on 2 Sep1666 the Great Fire of #London began burning at the bakery of Thomas Farriner on Pudding Lane. A monument to the fire was later erected in Pudding Lane which in part read "Here by permission of heaven, hell broke loose upon this Protestant city"
