The U.K. government’s proposal to scrap education and gender-equality aid budgets will deprive lower-income countries of essential funding for girls’ schooling, maternal health and preventing violence against women. Severing these lifelines will force millions of girls out of school. It will undermine the health and safety of the most vulnerable mothers and children in the world. It will worsen the harms of climate disasters and armed conflict, and drive up forced displacement and migration.

Now is the worst time to turn our backs on women and girls. We urge UK Prime Minister and @UKGov to restore support for girls’ education, and work toward ending aid dependency by fixing the global financial system, especially when it comes to unsustainable debt.
