After the discussion & break we'll continue with John Conama's Dr JBC (sign name “hearing aid”) presentation about "Sense of Community - the Irish Deaf Community". He will present us the results of a study from 2020 about the notion and strength of the irish deaf community belonging. #LLDC_Bern
Kristin Snoddon Kristin Snoddon will present us "Deaf Interpreters and Sign Language Vitality". It includes interesting data from a study of language ideologies related to deaf interpreters, as little is known about deaf interpreter demographics! #LLDC_Bern
The last presentation for today, given by Robert Adam Robert Adam, will cover "Minority Sign Language Contact". He will discuss some outcomes of language planning & language shift in deaf communities, as a result of sign language colonialism and sign language unification. #LLDC_Bern
Nick Palfreyman Nick Palfreyman will give his presentation about "The Social Meaning of Sign Language Mouthing in Multilingual Settings". Mouthing as an example of translanguaging has linguistic but also social functions, which have not been explored that much yet! #LLDC_Bern
After the discussion and break we continue with "Access: a Bird's-Eye View", a presentation by Maartje De Meulder Maartje De Meulder. We'll be asked the question, what "access" on an institutional, societal and individual level means, in what context and to which person. #LLDC_Bern
Last but not least: Joseph Murray Joseph Murray will talk about the emergence of ASL in the newly renovated Gallaudet University in his presentation on "Butterflies in the City: Deaf People, Sign Languages, and Access in Public Spaces". #LLDC_Bern
