🚨New report! 🚨 The EU must decarbonise shipping and aviation – but at what cost to biodiversity? On #COP29 biodiversity day, our latest research shows that using biofuel production puts biodiversity at serious risk. Only #GreenHydrogen e-fuels limit damage to nature. 🧵1/4

Our findings show that: 🌽 Biofuels' extensive land use demand harms biodiversity.  ⛽️ Meeting EU aviation and maritime climate goals using biofuels would jeopardise EU 2050 biodiversity targets. 🟢 Only green H2 e-fuels are compatible with biodiversity targets. 🧵2/4

But the EU does not have to sacrifice biodiversity to meet climate goals. To achieve both targets it must: 💸 Invest to scale up e-fuel production. 📉 Reduce fuel demand to ease already immense pressures on biodiversity posed by production to meet existing demand. 🧵3/4
