When studying at Carolina as an undergraduate, Courtney Chaaban ’11 tore her ACL in her first year doing gymnastics. Over a decade later, she researches adolescent ACL injuries and treatment as a PhD candidate within the Human Movement Science Curriculum. unc.live/3PgN4T9

Want to improve your scientific presentations? Every great seminar and conference speaker I've seen in my 15 years as an academic researcher did these 10 things. These can 10x your research visibility and impact. And this will unleash new opportunities. 🔥🚀 Let's dive in:

I worked with a masters student yesterday to pilot her protocol to collect biomechanics on volleyball players. We used OpenCap then downloaded the data a few minutes later. She couldn’t stop smiling. It was contagious. I’m excited for the future of motion capture!

Amazing work from Courtney Chaaban and @DarinPadua! Lots of evidence calling for optimizing how clinicians assess return to sport/play for injuries, ACL in particular. Consider adding dual-task conditions to your return to sport tests! Here's how to incorporate them.

Thoroughly enjoyed this article about incorporating cognitive load into ACL return-to-sport testing. A largely untapped area that has tons of potential to better gauge athlete readiness throughout the rehab process. Train the brain! 🧠

This was part of the great work of Camille King, a masters student I had the privilege of working with during her time at UNC. Congrats, Camille!

How do you objectively measure cognitive function? 🧠 Interesting paper with practical applications on how to incorporate cognitive load in return to sport testing 🏃‍♂️ Seems like this can be incorporated with regular force plate testing and provide valuable information

Our recent study validates a smartphone-based motion capture system, OpenCap, for lower extremity kinematics during RTS tasks in an injured population. OpenCap's user-friendly interface and free software offer accessibility beyond traditional labs. authors.elsevier.com/a/1jIKa4-6-hvhT
