As ever with COPs, the outcome is often about incremental forward moves. Some of this new wording around fossil fuels was unthinkable, even a year ago. But the language is exceptionally loose and open to all kinds of (mis)interpretation. Nonetheless, it is a move forwards

#COP28 concluded with a death knell for the fossil fuel industry, as an unprecedented call was made to "#transition away from fossil fuels." The Loss & Damage fund is operationalized, yet the committed funding of US$700m is far from enough. Progress is made, but we must #persist
