You may be seeing a bit more smoke today as our crews continue to put out spot fires and demolish portions of the building that caught fire earlier this week in the heart of Sugar House. I know these past few days have been difficult for displaced residents and businesses.

Congrats to Capt. Moser & Engineer Garvey, recipients of the “Meritorious Company Award” for their rapid response on scene. Truck 8 responded to a medical that turned out to be a burn victim. Quickly adapting, and rescuing the victim prevented further injury. Chief Karl Lieb, SLC Fire Salt Lake City Fire Department

Veterans’ Day provides us all the opportunity to honor the sacrifice made of all USAF veterans, those still with us and those who have gone before. Thank you and your families for making the great effort to protect the safety of the US and all of us who call this country home.

I had the honor of recognizing Salt Lake City Fire Department Engine 13B and Salt Lake City Police Department officers for their coordination and partnership. On a challenging EMS call, these individuals worked together to provide patients the greatest chance for survival. Thanks Chief Mike Brown for joining me. 📷: SLCPD

It’s a bittersweet day for Salt Lake City Fire Department as we bid farewell to Capt Joe Bush, retiring after 31 years of service. “No matter our differences, we’re all a family!” Capt Bush said today and I couldn’t have said it better myself. Congratulations and thank you for your service.

Due to significant snowpack SLCPU has started controlled water releases from Little Dell and Mountain Dell Reservoirs. Parleys Creek will be moving fast and the water is cold. Be careful around creeks and rivers. #floodcontrol #sugarhousepark #snowpack #wasatch #canyon

Another winter storm is here, and the likelihood of heavy spring runoff during the warming spring months is high. So we’re declaring April as Flood Safety Month to encourage Utahns to be prepared for flooding and other natural disasters. Learn more about how you can be prepared

From a robust storm water system, to debris basins and the addition of Little Dell reservoir, #SLC and our flood control partners, including Salt Lake County, have been preparing for decades to ensure the best possible outcomes for our residents in high snowpack years like this one.

Earlier this week, I had the privilege of recognizing Salt Lake City Fire Department Battalion Chief Karl Steadman. BC Steadman’s incident command skills are some of the best. It was great to honor his contributions to last fall’s 5-alarm Sugar House fire. Thanks Karl for all you do for us!

Keeping the tradition alive! The Fire Executive Team was happy to prepare lunch today for the crew of Company 9, A platoon. This crew donated the most money to our Christmas Box House charity drive this past December. Thanks 9’s for your generosity!
