Microsoft has managed to get Nvidia, a big opponent of the company's $69 billion acquisition of gaming firm Activision Blizzard, on its side. Nintendo also appears in support of Microsoft. But $MSFT has a huge challenge to convince regulators and its biggest rival Sony. My report

BREAKING: Microsoft's Activision Blizzard acquisition has been BLOCKED by the CMA. The UK regulators say the merger would cause harm to competition in cloud gaming in the UK. Microsoft says it will appeal. Details here: theverge.com/2023/4/26/2368…

"Microsoft Edge sends a request to bingapis .com with the full URL of nearly every page you navigate to" Microsoft secretly tracks people across myriads of websites/apps via pixel. Now it was caught tracking them directly in the browser, by default. Wild. theverge.com/2023/4/25/2369…

Machine learning is no excuse to break the law. Today's settlement on Amazon Alexa should set off alarms for parents across the country - and is a warning for every AI company sprinting to acquire more and more data. My full statement with @LinaKhanFTC and Rebecca Kelly Slaughter:

A while back, I stumbled upon a file I consider the largest piece of evidence revealing how hundreds of data brokers trade personal data on everyone, including very sensitive data, globally. Massive investigation by The Markup and German netzpolitik.org: themarkup.org/privacy/2023/0…

Wolfie Christl (@wolfiechristl) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The Markup netzpolitik.org Dated 2021, the file describes 650,000 'segments', most of which are lists of IDs that refer to people with certain characteristics. The lists are sold via the 'data marketplace' of Xandr, now a Microsoft company, for ad targeting. For example people diagnosed with 'depression'.

We did an analysis of the Google antitrust trial. Last week, over half of the trial was held behind closed doors because the judge, Amit Mehta, is deferring to Google on the need for secrecy. thebignewsletter.com/p/how-to-hide-…

This is part of a really worrying trend transforming increasingly young platform users (in this case kids playing videogames) into exploited workers. 👇👇 There needs to be much greater attention to this type of hidden exploitative relations. #platformregulation

extraordinary. simple math would put this at approximately $32 BILLION in 2023 YES $32 BILLION TO MAINTAIN MONOPOLY AND SURVEILLANCE POWERS based on Google's two-year growth in search advertising all other variables (% access point and rev share %s) likely consistent.

This sort of says it all. This slide is straight out of the Apple internal strategy deck between top executives as they prepared to make their major bet across the company and brand around consumer privacy. It's what effectively led to a war with Facebook. /7

please continue to share this thread. Google's advocate arms are each trying to discredit me and the thread (along with the one yesterday that got a lot of attention). It's enjoyable knowing the evidence and their own emails are uncomfortable now unsealed in the wild.
