Rocks with hair? The wind on #Tenerife brings moisture to allow lichen to grow on windward facing basalts. 'Stereocaulon vesuvianum' was discovered at Mount Vesuvius, giving its name. To me this lichen grows just like pingitore_federico hair. What do you think? GeoTenerife #Geology

Deciphering new pumice falls within the existing geological log of southern #Tenerife with Richard James Brown and GeoTenerife. So far we’ve named part of this sequence the upper and lower junk. However, more interesting name suggestions are very welcome 🌋

We found banded pumice! Banded #pumice is created when differing layers of the magma chamber stratigraphy mingle but don’t quite mix together during the eruption, displaying two colours like marble. pingitore_federico GeoTenerife Summer Programme GeoTenerife
