We held our first secondary attendance strategy day today, led by Lorraine Yates our National Attendance Lead. Attendance leads from each secondary attended, helping shape 25-26 planning. A very productive day. The Trust Dividend in action! Thanks to Astrea Academy Sheffield - Secondary Phase for hosting.

Today we were brave, kind and present. We talked, we QA’d and we worked on our next steps for 25-26. We agreed actions, we collaborated and we shared our vision.

An advantage of knowledge-rich curricula over skills-based ones that I haven't seen discussed much is with the former students can see they are making progress—they know things they formerly didn't. When students see they are making progress they are more likely to invest effort.

This is a great thread. In Astrea secondaries, we have a common curriculum, fully resourced with booklets as our 'best bet' curriculum product, along with Intellectual Preparation at trust, department and individual level to help support Composite Planning.

This article by Jacqueline Magee 𝗗𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘄𝗮𝗶𝗻 & Kate O'Connor is superb. Really pulls together underlying issues of why knowledge-rich goes wrong when certain generic pedagogies (eg lesson structures, blanket approaches to retrieval prac) distort it. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
