The athletes in the #Paralympics2024 have been amazing to watch and listen to. Really puts everyday things into perspective as always. Superb coverage too from Channel 4.

"An Autumn Hedgerow near Carisbrook" by Fanny Mary Minns, 1847-1929. You can see Carisbrook Castle on the Isle of Wight in the distance. Minns was a flower painter--she makes the hedgerow plants look as special as any exotic flowers. victorianweb.org/painting/misc/…

Antiques TV expert appraises Victorian door knocker. 'Somebodys tried to drill a hole into the back of it, so that's not ideal, we'll ignore that'. 😂

An interesting bit of treen. This wooden jar, possibly for tobacco, has a carved bird and abbreviation on the lid. My current thinking is that it may be connected to the British rule of the Bahr El Ghazal region of South Sudan.

Bargain buy at the boot sale was this 1880 Chatto and Windus publication of Dr Syntax's Three Tours with illustrations by Rowlandson. At some point beautifully rebound in full green leather with insets for title and author.

Local farmer this year started growing sunflowers and wild flowers. Pick your own. Thousands of them available. I'll be back for as long as they're there. Never seen so many bees in one place.
