Before tingatingas (bulldozers), did you know how forced evictions manifested decades ago? Meet Kawira, a mother, a long-lived resident of Nairobi’s third-largest informal settlement, who has experienced and contested different waves of forceful evictions across decades.

WHEN THE RIVER RECLAIMS WHAT WAS ALWAYS ITS OWN… In Mathare, a house stood, until it didn’t. The floodwaters came like an uninvited guest, sweeping away homes, memories, and livelihoods. For some, the flood was the final blow.

As Muturi watched recurrent floods tearing through homes in Mathare, washing away memories, he couldn't help but question who must be held accountable. Floods to the right, #evictions to the left 🏚️📸. When shall our cities shift from reactive demolitions to proactive resilience?
