UK manufacturers to start cutting jobs by the summer if no US deal. Stephen Phipson, CEO of Make UK, has told MPs that UK firms could start laying off staff by the summer if the UK cannot secure a deal to cut tariffs of 10% on all goods, 25% on steel, aluminium and cars.

Tariff impact on some high end UK car makers is "severe, significant and immediate" car industry group tells MPs. But points out that competitors to Aston, Rolls, Mclaren etc is from likes of Italy, Germany etc but SMMT Mike Hawes says job losses could be weeks away not months.

No signs yet of diverted Chinese EVs arriving in volume in UK in response to US tariffs. Mike Hawes of SMMT quite dismissive of talk of "tsunami" of China imports.

Unite's Steve Turner tells MPs we need EVs made in UK but sold abroad to count towards UK EV mandates. Also, should have extra credits towards targets for UK made vehicles sold here. Says the 2030 ban on pure petrol/diesel is a "false, self imposed target".
