If Tester goes down, Dems’ best shot at a Senate majority may be beating Rick Scott (plus Sherrod Brown and Harris winning). Few believe it is likely given FL’s recent trend toward Rs, but certainly an interesting poll

My assessment of that year’s model wars (in which people were mad at Nate Silver’s forecast for saying Trump had a 1-in-3 chance of winning rather than a 1-in-100 chance) (I thought his arguments made sense and the model should be taken seriously)

Sansho, Ugetsu, and Oharu are the canonized Mizoguchis but his less-seen works in more modern settings are also fantastic: Women of the Night, Lady of Musashino, Street of Shame, and my personal favorite, Flame of My Love (which deals with women's rights in 1880s Japan)

The rules of Nate Silver’s forecast are that if it shows your preferred candidate with a 51% chance of winning, you should feel utterly serene. But if it shows your candidate with a 49% chance of winning, you should feel some combination of anxious, irate, and despairing.
